Building History

This facility was utilized until the construction of the third clubhouse at 4400 Wilshire Boulevard in 1927. The Ebell Clubhouse #2 on Figueroa Street, according to the Los Angeles Times, was to become a theatre for the Los Angeles Community Art Theatre, part of the "Little Theatre Movement" in the US. (See "Ebell's former club house will become theater," Los Angeles Times, 09/20/1927, p. 8.) Architect Sumner P. Hunt (1865-1938), whose wife was a past President of the Los Angeles Ebell Club, designed Clubhouses #2 and #3.
