Kress and Company leased first-floor retail space in Van Amberg Building from 1923-1960; the store also had a mezzanine. This Kress store was closed in 1960 as were several others in the Los Angeles area.

Edward F. Sibbett renovated the entryways, display windows and interior in 1937;
