Overview
The San Francisco Call morning newspaper operated at 525 Montgomery Street in 1891. (See San Francisco City Directory, 1891, p. 1205.) The newspaper was operated by Loring Pickering, George K. Fitch and the estate of J.W. Simonton at the time. In 1895, sugar magnate Claus Spreckels would buy the newspaper and relocate it, with much fanfare, to a grand new building at 703 Market Street.
