Building Notes

A long covered porch connected a one-story shed with a three-story building housing railroad offices; a clock tower and belfry, resembling that of San Marco in Venice, rose well above the office structure. All buildings in this Romanesque ensemble were composed of buff stone. Postcard #466 published by Edward H. Mitchell, Publisher, of San Francisco, illustrated the terminal.

Demolition

The Great Northern Railway Depot in Spokane, WA, was razed, save for its distinctive tower, patterned on the Torre de San Marco (completed 1513) in Venice. The world exhibition, Expo '74, was held on Havermale Island on land, in part occupied by the depot.
