Building History

Spokane architect Albert Held designed this symmetrical dwelling covered by a hipped roof for the engineer William F. Zimmerman. In 1909, Zimmerman worked as a consulting engineer for the Spokane and Inland Empire Railroad, an electric line that was incorporated in 1904.

The address listed in 1908 for Zimmerman was on the "north side of Short Court, 1 east of Grand Avenue." (See R.L. Polk and Company's Spokane City Directory, 1908, p. 1095.) In 1907, he lived in a room at the Spokane Club, suggesting that he may have moved to this new house in late 1907 or early 1908. (See R.L. Polk and Company's Spokane City Directory, 1907, p. 950.)
