This bridge spanned the southern end of San Francisco Bay, connecting unincorporated East Palo Alto (later annexed by Menlo Park, CA) on the west and Fremont, CA, on the east.

Rail passage over the cantilevered steel Dumbarton Railroad Bridge ceased in 1982.

This bridge spanned a narrowing section of San Francisco Bay from Dumbarton Point to Fremont, CA. The central cantilevered section of the rail bridge twisted to allow the passage of ships into the south end of the bay.

The bridge's western side collapsed in a fire in 1998. Regional transit proposal in 03/2004 created funds for the rehabilitation of the bridge for future rail travel between the San Francisco Peninsula and the East Bay cities of Fremont, Newark and Union City, among others.
