The Tacoma, WA, architect Frederick Heath (1861-1953) designed this second church for the congregation of the 1st Church of Christ Scientist. The first church was built in 1900-1901. This building was the first house of worship in Tacoma constructed with hollow tile walls, now known to be poor in resisting seismic shocks. Edward Young served as the Building Contractor for the 1st Church of Christ Scientist #2. The first service in the new facility occurred on 12/31/1911.

A copper dome graced the crossing of the Greek Cross plan.
