Building History

The Klopfenstein Menswear Store began its Downtown Seattle, WA, operations in 1924 and lasted until 1992. Hart, Schaffner and Marx, the Chicago-based clothing company, ran Klopfenstein's toward the end of the store's existence.

Alteration

In the 1930s, the Seattle architectural firm of McClelland and Jones redesigned the Klopfenstein menswear store at 1417 4th Avenue. (See "Klopfenstein's Store, Seattle, Washington," Architect and Engineer, vol. 138, no. 3, 09/1939, p. 26.)

Demolition

While the office tower at 1417 4th Avenue has remained (in 2024), the Klopfenstein Store occupying the first and second floors was demolished and remodeled.
