Overview

This landmark theatre occupied an important location near the important shopping crossroads of 4th Avenue and Pine Street.

Building History

The Colonial featured a pedimented front facade supported by four Doric columns. Film exhibitor John Danz purchased the Colonial Theatre in 1917. It became one of several owned by Danz at the time, including the Star and the Class A Theatres.

Building Notes

The Colonial Theatre had 1,000 seats, with no balconies.

Alteration

Over the years, like most movie theatres, this one sported several different marquees.

Demolition

The Colonial Theatre was demolished in 1984 to make way for the Century Square office/retail tower completed the following year. The Colonial Theatre was removed as were the Harper Building (3rd Avenue and Pike Street) and the Bigelow Building (4th Avenue and Pike Street).
