Morgan designed this residence for the well-to-do lawyer, Allen L. Chickering, Sr., (9/20/1877-01/06/1958), his wife, Alma Sherman Chickering, their daughter, Mary, and son, Allen L., Jr., and another child on the way. The Chickerings also required space for several servants. The house had an appraised value of approximately $50,000 in 1930, a large amount for the time.
