This small lighthouse, a Fresnel lens perched on top of a two- story, gable-roofed dwelling, opened in 1871 and was decommissioned in 1874. Friends of the Yaquina Lighthouses, Incorporated, refurbished this facility and it was re-commissioned as a private-run aid to navigation on 12/07/1996. In 2008, this lighthouse was the only remaining in Oregon to possess its original residential accommodations and to have been built of wood-frame construction. An interpretive center opened in this building in 1997.
