Graphic designer Rolf Klep founded this museum in 1962, dedicated to preserving the maritime heritage of the Columbia River region.

Beginning in 10/2000, the Columbia River Maritime Museum undertook a $6 million expansion and renovation; exhibit space grew to 44,200 square feet; completion occurred on 05/11/2002.
