This mine, located in Ferry County, WA, was to employ 200 workers when fully operational. Its opening had been delayed for nearly two years, due to environmental concerns. The owner was Kinross Gold, a Toronto, ON-based mining concern; Kinross hoped that the mountain would yield approximately 1 million ounces of gold; the Crown Resources Corporation discovered gold here at Buckhorn Mountain in 1988, and sold out to Kinross, a very large gold producer, in 2006.
