Bill Kirschner founded this ski, skate and bicycle manufacturer on Vashon Island, WA, in 1967. Kirschner adapted the use of fiberglass to skis back in 1961, the first to do so, thereby revolutionizing the skiing industry. In 2007, Jarden Corporation purchased K2, at that time a company with 240 employees. Jarden was a conglomerate owning the Sunbeam, Mr. Coffee and Crock-Pot houseware, Coleman camping supplies, Shakespeare fishing equipment, and Volkl ski brands. Under Jarden, K2, transferred its headquarters to a 310,000-square-foot space in the SODO neighborhood of Seattle, WA. All of K2's manufacturing facilities were located in Hong Kong in 2008; approximately 52 designers and developers were located in the Seattle office.
