Foudned in 1954, Savers, Incorporated, ranked as the leading for-profit thrift-store chain in the world, with 218 stores and annual sales of $600 million as of 2008. Its stores operated in the Northeast, Northwest, Midwest, Canada and Australia under the names, "Value Village," "Savers" and "Village des Valeurs." This privately-held business received financing from the Los Angeles, CA-based equity firm, Freeman Spogli, in the 2000s. In 2008, Savers, Incorporated paid charities $117 million per year for merchandise.
