The City of Newberg funded the construction of the Newberg Community Hospital in 1957. In 1986, the Catholic healthcare organization, the Sisters of Providence Health System, later renamed Providence Health and Services, became the administrator of the Newberg facility. In 1993 and 1994, City of Newberg administrators came under investigations for ethics violations, accusations that prompted the sale of the Newberg Community Hospital to the Sisters of Providence in 06/1994. George Fox University located close by, acquired the Providence Newberg Hospital for academic uses in 04/2004.

Three additions were made to the original Newberg Community Hospital. At its largest extent in 1994, it contained 58,900 square feet, accommodating 35 beds and two operating facilities.
