Building History

The "Wilson Block," on 1st Street, existed in 1887. A real estate firm selling land in Rosecrans, CA, occupied rooms 8-9 on 05/26/1887.

In 1891, two Wilson Blocks were listed in the Los Angeles, California, City Directory, 1891. The Wilson Building #1 (known as the "Old Wilson Block") stood at 126 West 1st Street, and William A. Wilson was its leasing agent. The Wilson Building #2 ("New Wilson Block") occupied the southeast corner of Spring and 1st Streets. (See Los Angeles, California, City Directory, 1891, p. 680.)

Three "Wilson Blocks" were listed in Maxwell's Los Angeles, California, City Directory, 1896, (p.1432): at 102 South Spring Street, 139 1/2 South Main, and 429 South Broadway. Four Wilson Blocks were listed in 1897: 102 South Spring Street, 139 1/2 South Main, 429 South Broadway and 113 East 1st Street. Maxwell's Los Angeles, California, City Directory, 1897, (p. 992), listed the "Wilson Block (E)" at 429 S. Broadway and the "Wilson Block (L.B.)" at 113 East 1st.

The building still stood in 1899.
