R. Gary Black of the University of California, Berkeley, designed the residence; Brandon Tyson completed the gardens done in an Islamic-influenced style. Abbe Zieminski, an artists, designed a compass ornament in the pavement of the garden.

The house was U-shaped, formed around a courtyard.
