Building History

Owner of the Bon Marche, Allied Stores built this store at Northgate Mall between 1948 and 1950. The walls and ceiling of the Bon Marche were in place by 12/06/1949. It was the largest store erected at this time, its scale dominating what had been constructed around it.

In 2005, Federated Stores, owner of the Bon Marche, changed the Seattle-based chain's name to another of its brands, Macy's, in all Pacific Northwest outlets.

It closed as a Macy's Department Store in mid-2019 and was subsequently demolished.

Demolition

The store was demolished to make way for ice skating rinks used by Seattle's expansion National Hockey League team, the Kraken.
