Lynette Perry operated the Wayfair Cafe at this location in 1938; Fred Garski bought the restaurant in 1964 and operated it as the Scarlet Tree. A long-time neighborhood restaurant, the Scarlet Tree suffered a fire 07/21/2005 and stood vacant before being demolished in 2008. A neon sign, emblazoned "Scarlet Tree Restaurant and Bar," distinguished the entry. It was to be replaced by yet another 6-story mixed-use apartment and retail building.
This was an early commercial building in the Roosevelt District, built as the automobile enabled the city to flow northward.
Demolished 06/10/2008.
