The Clise Family has owned property in Seattle since the 1880s; after the 1889 Fire, it began buying chunks of land in the 5th Avenue-Denny Triangle Area of Downtown, and eventually assembled a contiguous 13.8 acre parcel. This was offered for sale in 2007, with several buyers interested. The cost was steep, estimated in the billions of dollars. The Wall Street Journal Online reported on 04/25/2008 that Clise Properties had reached an agreement to develop their huge parcel with Dubai-based Emaar Properties, but that development would be shelved until lending became easier.
