In 2008, twelve "Talk-a-Phone" towers were installed on the Seattle campus. Talk-a-Phones were emergency phones that also could broadcast emergency messages for about a 1000-foot radius. Ten of the new phones replaced old emergency phones, and two new locations were added in early 2008. This precautionary move came about after the murder of Rebecca Jane Griego occurred in Gould Hall on 04/02/2007. Jeff Huang of the UW Technology Services Office served as project manager for the Talk-a-Phone installation.
