In 1953, it lay in an alley between 6th Avenue and 7th Avenue and James Street and Jefferson Street. It originally occupied the northwest corner of 7th Avenue and James Street.

In 1953, this was the oldest house remaining in the Downtown Seattle Business District, according to architect, Victor Steinbrueck. It was moved at least once; originally it sat on the northwest corner of 7th Avenue and James Street. John Wenzler, a shoemaker, first erected the house.
