A new trend toward "traffic calming" in residential areas has spurred the revival of traffic circles. Unlike traffic circles of the 1920s, recent circles do not have stop lights or stop signs, and are located in residential neighborhoods rather than commercial crossroads. Los Angeles had a number of famous traffic circles during the 1920s, most notably the Carthay Circle.
