Building History

In 2021, the Redevelopment Agency of the City of Santa Barbara owned the depot. At this time, Amtrak served the city with its Coast Starlight trains that linked destinations from CA to OR and WA, and its Amtrak California Pacific Surfliner service that linked locations in the southern part of the state from San Diego to San Luis Obispo. Additionally, four Amtrak Thruway Motorcoach circuits stopped at the station, connecting travelers between Santa Barbara and Oakland (via San Luis Obispo), Santa Barbara and Las Vegas (via Bakersfield), Santa Barbara and San Jose (via San Luis Obispo) and Santa Barbara and Central Los Angeles.

Building Notes

Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

Alteration

The Santa Barbara Southern Pacific Depot was renovated in 2000, work that renovated the building's HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems. Public seating areas were also updated at this time.
