This firm was led by brothers Louis Schwabacher (1837-1900), Abraham Schwabacher (c. 1838-1909), and Sigmund Schwabacher (1841-1917), of German Jewish descent who fled to the U.S. to avoid presecution in their native Prussia. Louis Schwabacher first migrated to Mississippi in the mid-late 1850s and then to San Francisco in 1858. At this time, Louis sent for his brothers to join him. Sensing greater opportunity, the three expanded their operations to the wide open Washington Territory c. 1859, and opened the first Schwabacher General Store in Walla Walla, WA, on 09/01/1860. This first location--selling groceries, clothing, construction materials and tools--proved very successful and began the brothers' diversified business empire in the Pacific Northwest. This first store in Walla Walla was replaced by a larger facility in 1862. (See Jean Roth, "Part 1: The Schwabacher Family of Washington State," Jewish Geneaological Society of Washington StateAccessed 03/18/2014.)

The store opened 09/01/1860 and closed in 1862, when another larger store was opened.

Demolished.
