The first Altenheim was housing for German elderly living in Oakland, CA. The association first looked for land to establish a home in San Francisco, but this proved too costly, so land was secured in Oakland's Dimond District at a price of $6,000. Fund raising succeeded in bringing $39,800 for a building campaign between 1890-1893. A cornerstone was laid in 08/1893, and the building finished by 05/1894.
Demolished; the Altenheim burned down in 07/1908.
