Building History

Jose Manuel and Maria Machado built this two-room adobe in 1830 after most of their children had married and left the house. Rosa Machado, the youngest of nine, married Jack Stewart, and they occupied the house for the rest of their lives.

Building Notes

The Machado-Stewart House is located a block away from the Casa Estudillo in San Diego's Old Town.

Alteration

The California Park and Recreation Department restored the Machado-Stewart House; its interior was furnished by the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, San Diego County Committee.
