Bailey was a dentist and his wife worked as an artist. They had one child when the house was first built.
The Bailey House is located close to the Charles and Ray Eames House and the John Entenza House on Chautauqua Boulevard.
The Bailey hired Neutra to design two additions to their house that increased its size by approximately 1200 square feet. The Los Angeles, CA, architects, Marmol Radziner, worked on a renovation of the Bailey House in 2003.
