This four-floor, underground parking garage was built between 03/1941 and 09/1942 at a cost of $1.5 million. $850,000 was obtained in a Reconstruction Finance Corporation (RFC) Loan, the other $600,000 from local public funds. The garage was designed to hold 1,700 cars. In 2011, the garage had 985 spaces.

The garage originally measured 412.5 feet by 275 feet by 48 feet deep. In the wake of the construction of this huge underground parking facility, Los Angeles began the consideration of a similar parking garage to be built under Pershing Square in its Downtown. This was completed in 1950, designed by Stiles O. Clements and Associates, Architects-Engineers. Tel: 415.397.0631 (2011).
