Building History

The California Theatre building operated as a meat market in 1905, but was converted into a theatre in 1919. It changed its name to the "Aztec Theatre" in 1930. The California/Aztec Theatre operated for at least some of its history within the Fox-West Coast Theater Chain.

Alteration

It opened as the California Theatre in 1919 and operated thereafter as the 1927 as the Aztec Theatre.

Clifford Balch remodeled the lobby and exterior in 1936 for Fox-West Coast, just after staff changes were made in 1935;
