The land for this park was purchased in 1973 and made into a park in 1975. Alvin Larkins (1949-1977) was a music teacher at Wilson Junior High and Franklin High Schools, and locally prominent jazz musician and choral director. The park was name in Mr. Larkins's honor in 1979.
