Captain Enoch S. Fowler (c. 1813-1876) built this Greek Revival house, one of the earliest in this sea-faring town. (In 2007, the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation indicated that "Although deteriorated, it has largely retained its original configuration with few alterations. According to the Jefferson County Historical Society, the Fowler House is the oldest residential dwelling existing in Port Townsend and one of the oldest private homes in the state." See http://www.wa-trust.org/mostendangered/current_list.htm Accessed 1/11/2008) Fowler lived here from 1864-1876, when it passed down through his family, which occupied the structure through the 1910s. The original activities of the Historic American Buildings Survey in the 1930s documented this pioneer structure.

The property was listed as one of the most endangered properties in the State of Washington in 2007 by the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation.
