This building, built with funds donated by the Spokane Mining baron, John A. Finch, served as the dining hall and camp headquarters for Camp Bowles, established in 1920.

The Inland Northwest Council of the Boy Scouts voted to demolish the lodge in the fall 2006, sparking a controversy over the building's preservation.
