Building History

Due to shrinking membership, the University Christian Church congregation sold its extensive facility on 15th Avenue NE in 2018 and merged with another nearby church. It wrote on its web site: "After more than 100 years in the University District, University Christian Church (UCC) merged with Lake City Christian Church, a congregation in ministry since 1948, to form a new congregation, Journey Christian Church. As the merger conversations evolved, UCC made the difficult decision to sell the church property in the University District in the fall of 2018." (See University Christian Church.org, "Home," accessed 12/28/2020.)

Building Notes

Built in the 1920s, this church had stained glass windows fabricated by Anton G. Rez, a Hungarian-born craftsman working for W.P. Fuller and Company, a Seattle glass manufacturer.

PCAD had prior to 12/28/2020 credited the Los Angeles architect Robert Hall Orr (1873-1964) with the design of University Christian Church. This was in error. In 1919, Orr created an unbuilt design for the 1st Christian Church in Seattle.

Demolition

The church's chapel has been torn down by 08/2019.
