The house featured a semi-circular wall resembling designs by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.

Mayhew designed this house, costing $18,500, for a family with two children. The Rowell House occupied hilly terrain, with the entry located midway between first and second floors. SOme of the added cost of this house went into its reinforced concrete framing system, designed to resist earthquakes. The exterior was covered in smooth plaster, cream-colored, with a marine blue tile roof.
