The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers designed this steel cantilever bridge in conjunction with the Dalles Dam in 1951. Only one other steel-truss cantilever bridge was erected in Washington during the decade.
The bridge connects Murdock/Dallesport, WA and The Dalles, OR, separated by the Columbia River. Tolls to pay for the $2.4 million span were collected between 12/18/1953 (its date of opening) anf 11/01/1974.
