Structure Type: built works - dwellings - houses
Designers: Gehry, Frank O. and Associates, Incorporated (firm); Frank Owen Gehry (architect)
Dates: constructed 1965
This small artist's studio was one Frank Gehry's first commissions; through repeated publication, it helped put Gehry on the architectural world map.
Seen from the street, this house presents a nearly blank face, with only one window breaking its planar composition. The facade depends on the minimal effects of changing shadow patterns for interest. The clean surface of the each plane has been affected by decay, graffiti and subsequent repaintings.
