Building History

On two occasions, the Oregon State Capitol Mall suffered serious fires, one in 1855, the other in 1935. A design competition followed the 1935 fire, attracting 123 entries, and was won by Trowbridge and Livingston and Francis Keally, Associated Architects, New York, NY; California entrants included the San Francisco firms Miller and Pflueger and Arthur Brown, Jr.
