Overview
This large Los Angeles public high school was named for John Marshall (1755-1835), the fourth Chief Justice, who served between 1801 and 1835. Opened on 01/26/1931, the high school accommodated approximately 1,200 students and employed 48 teachers originally.
Alteration
The Sylmar Earthquake of 02/09/1971 caused significant damage to John Marshall High School, necessitating the demolition of the cafeteria. Los Feliz residents banded together to urge the building's repair. A seismic upgrade occurred between 1975 and 09/1980. During the five years of construction, students attended classes in temporary buildings brought to the campus.
