A grocer, Frank E. Pohl, originally designed and built this 37-foot-round concrete orange in the mid-1930s; he also operated approximately 16 other orange-shaped stands on California state highways from Los Angeles to Redding. The owner of Mark's Hot Dogs, Mark Yuram, moved here in 1947, leaving a site in Downtown San Jose, CA. The small orange structure was made a City of San Jose Historic Landmark in 1992; Mark's shut down at this location on 02/09/2003, forced to move to a new site, due to the construction of a housing development on its old location. It reopened under a broad new metal canopy in late 2003, in November or December. In c. 2000, Demos Pantelides had owned Mark's Hot Dogs for many years.
The original address for this orange-shaped building was at 1920 Alum Rock Boulevard, San Jose, CA, southwest of its current location. Tel: (408) 926-0923 (2007);
