The first Lake Washington Floating Bridge, built in 1940 (and renamed in 1967 as the Lacey V. Murrow Bridge), sank in a storm in 1990; it was rebuilt in 1993 to carry eastbound lanes of U.S. Interstate 90. The Homer M. Hadley Bridge was erected in 1989 just to the north of the Murrow Bridge and accommodated two west-bound lanes, two reversible lanes, and a bicycle path.
