David and Lucile Packard and their family lived here until David Packard's death in 1996. David Packard (09/07/1912-03/26/1996) co-founded the Hewlett-Packard Corporation with William Hewlett in 1939. Lucile Salter Packard died in 1987.
The house was and continues to be surrounded by 70 acres of apricot orchards. The Packard Foundation has maintained the house's study in the same condition as it was left when Packard died in 1996.
The David and Lucile Packard Foundation (founded in 1964) renovated this 10,000-square-foot house into a foundation meeting facility in 2000-2001. They renamed it Taaffe House for the ranching family that once owned all of the acreage in Los Altos Hills.
