Building History

This residence, erected for the President of the General Insurance Company of America, General America Corporation, General Casualty Company of America, and 1st National Insurance Company of America, Hawthorne Kingsbury Dent, (born 1880 in Portland, OR-d. 1958), was under construction during the mid-1930s, and inhabited by his second wife, Dorothy Lindley Dent (born 05/1895 in CA-d. 10/15/1952 in Seattle, WA), and him, by late 1937 or 1938. (See Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1938, p. 398.)Dent's third wife, Ethel M. Hofius (born c. 1910-d. 02/05/1981), whom he married on 08/06/1954, remained living in the house until 1958, at least.

The architects were the tandem of Elizabeth Ayer (1897-1987) and Edwin Ivey (1883-1940).
