The Bellevue Community College opened in 01/1966, following a 1962 levy that raised $575,000 to build a two-year community college on the east side of Lake Washington. When opened, it serving 464 students. Enrollment hit a new high of 39,300 in 2000-01. The landscape architect William Teufel (1925-2007) created the landscape plan for the new campus.
