According to the architect's daughter, Mary Clements Rosenast, the Chouinard Institute was designed by Stiles O. Clements. (See Mary Clements Rosenast, "Stiles O. Clements: A Personal View," Los Angeles Conservancy News, 12:2, 03-04/1990, p. 8.)
In 1973, a group of women obtained the former Chouinard Art Institute property and turned it into the Woman's Center, a meeting place and clearinghouse for feminist ideas in design. A group called the Feminist Studio Workshop, a feminist think tank and design studio, operated at the Woman's Center.
