The Cooper School was closed by the school system c. 1990; in 2002, a Seattle Public Schools School Advisory Use Committee considered what to do with the long-vacant building. By 2007, it had become the Youngstown Cultural Arts Center, with lofts for artists, a theater, classrooms, and offices.
