Overview

In 1855, S.M. Bailey and L. Farmer operated the Saint Charles Hotel. Beds and meals cost 50 cents in 1855. The hotel advertised: "A large number of private rooms, with double and single beds. A large yard and stable attached to the premises." (See Saint Charles advertisement, Sacramento Daily Union, vol. 9, no. 1273, 04/23/1855, p. 2.) This pioneer hotel continued in operation in 11/1860. In 1855, it was located nearby to the Union Hotel, at 219 J Street, between 7th and 8th Streets.
