In 07/26/2007, an accident at this Mojave Desert testing facility killed three of Scaled Composite LLC's workers and seriously injred three others. It was at this site that a new space shuttle venture between Scaled Composites and a new British company, Virgin Galactic, was being developed. Aerospace engineer, Burt Rutan, headed Scaled Composites at the time, and Virgin Galactic was owned by the British billioniare, Richard Branson.
