In the wake of the startling collapse of Minneapolis's Interstate 35-W Bridge on 08/01/2007, other levels of government--local, state and federal--increased inspection of bridges within their jurisdictions. The I-5 Ship Canal Bridge, built of a similar steel deck truss design as that of the Minneapolis bridge, was inspected in late 08/2007.
